Federal OSC lease s North Aleutian shelf, Alaska, is scheduled for April The area, located in the southeastern Bering Sea, has 3 basins with sedimentary thicknesses in excess of 4 km. Six geologic conditions that could cause problems during petroleum development are: (1) seismicity, (2) recent faulting, (3) gas-charged sediment, (4) bed forms and active sediment transport, (5. The Bering Sea (BS), located between Alaska in the east and Russia in the west (Figure 1) plays an important role in the global ocean circulation and climate change. It provides the only connection (through the Bering Strait) between the Pacific Ocean to the south and the Arctic Ocean to its north. The northeastern part of the BS is a wide.
The Alaska region is made up of 5 distinct ecosystems: the Gulf of Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, the East Bering Sea, the Beaufort Sea, and the Chukchi Sea. These support extensive high value commercial fisheries, indigenous communities subsistence uses, oil and gas development, and many other economic and cultural uses. In that study, we established that, for water depths, temperatures, and sediment materials specific to the Bering Sea basins, the predicted relationship between velocity anomaly and hydrate concentration is nearly identical for two- and three-component time-average models (e.g. Bangs et al., )as wel las for the rock-physics-based frame.
Sea levels around Alaska are decreasing, but are expected to rise in the future. Ice melt from Alaska is contributing to global sea level rise, and some areas of the state are beginning to experience flooding and other consequences. The state will need to work towards finding solutions to sea .
